Cause Description:
Sled Hockey **Sled hockey is ice hockey for the physically disabled that are unable to play stand up hockey **Players skate in a sled on the ice and propel themselves with 2 hockey sticks that have picks on the flat side **It is highly competitive and follows the same rules as regular hockey **Our players have a variety of physical diseases and birth defects: Spina Bifida. Cerebral Palsy, Amputees, Spinal Cord Injuries, Cancer, and various muscle diseases - just to name a few **Players with weak upper bodies can be pushed by able bodied players **It builds self-esteem, confidence, allows team play and promotes physical activity for disabled youth who have limited opportunities for exercise **Tournament opportunities occur throughout the year in both the US and Canada **For those interested, it is a Paralympic sport and the US took the Gold in Utah in 2002 Vineland Sled Stars **Member of the Atlantic District Youth league **Vineland Ice Arena is the home of our team **Practice year round **Non – profit organization **Currently play 14 games during season, which runs from Sept to Feb **Coaches are USA hockey certified and have experience working with disabled youth
