Cause Description:
We are collecting donations for the Church of God, of Monticello, New York. The church has just burned completely. This church serves an impoverished community in upstate New York. The pastors serve the church 24/7, with no outside employment. Church members are minorities, primarily Hispanic. For many of them, the church is all the family they have. In this congregation they find a place of worship spiritual strength and support. This generous church serves the surrounding community with several social programs, such as drug addiction rehabilitation, health clinics and support for people with serious chronic illnesses, people in crisis, services for troubled youth and children in need, local schools and relief for poverty-related issues. They cooperate with local law enforcement agencies in efforts to cut down crime in the area, providing means for community service credit as well. Aside from their local community service programs, they have been a tremendous help in developing countries, such as Nicaragua. In Nicaragua, they fully support a children's orphanage and have restored a nearby community, building entire homes and improving their infrastructure. In the last couple of years they have sent thousands of pairs of crocs shoes to local children, as well as clothing items for people of all ages. A fire started during this Sunday's morning service. Flames have engulfed most areas of the building. Many of the church members are losing their possesions, as they had to leave all common resources and personal items behind. The church is losing tens of thousands of dollars in equipment such as computer systems, projectors, musical instruments, lighting and sound equipment, donation supplies, etc.. They purchased all these items using their own scarce resources. We are pleading for funds to help replace all that they lost in the fire, so that they can continue to meet and to serve impoverished people locally and abroad through their many programs.
